Funes Valley is located between the cities of Bressanone and Chiusa and it lies to the east of Isarco Valley. The way to Funes leads you through a narrow and rocky gorge but after a few kilometres the valley spreads out in front of you and you will be stunned by its beauty. The great scenario of the Odle Mountains at the end of the valley will also fascinate you. This is where the legendary mountaineer Reinhold Messner was born and where he discovered his love for the mountains
Funes has a size of 81 km², it lies at an altitude of 960 to 2,300 m above sea level and it has about 2,300 inhabitants. The main village is San Pietro. Other villages are Tiso, Santa Maddalena, San Valentino, San Giacomo and Coll.
Funes Valley is one of the last unspoilt and undeveloped valleys in South Tyrol, that is why it is legally protected.
Oberpiskoihof Farm is an ideal starting point for easy walks which are also suitable for children. Our farm is also an ideal starting point for more difficult walking tours leading through the meadows and forests of the lower mountains.
The Puez – Odle National Park offers experienced walkers, mountaineers and mountain bikers a network of walking paths that travel beneath the slopes of the Odle Mountains. Rock climbing trips that vary in degree of difficulty can be done with or without mountain guide.
The picturesque town of Chiusa, which is also called „the city of Dürer“, is only at a distance of 12 km from Funes. On the cliff that dominates the small town, people can admire Sabiona Monastery, also called the holy mountain of the Tyrol. Also Bressanone, the former seat of the bishop’s palace, with its Palace of the Prince-Bishops, the Dome and Novacella Monastery are worth seeing.
The capital of South Tyrol, Bolzano, is only a 45-minute drive from Funes. In Bolzano you can visit the Bolzano Museum housing Ötzi, you can go shopping or simply enjoy Bolzano’s unique flair.
The main village of Funes is only at a distance of 1.5 km from our farm. There are shops, restaurants, doctors, a bank, a post office, taxis, a tourist office and public means of transport.
Tiso is the founding place of the famous geodes from Tiso, a variety of rock crystals. Numerous geodes are exhibited in the Mineralogical Museum of Tiso.
